Description

The Old Rectory is a rectory that has been converted into a house. It dates from the second half of the 15th century and was clad and raised in the early 18th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th and late 20th centuries. The building features a timber frame clad in painted brick and has a tiled roof. It is designed in an H-plan, with a hall range aligned east to west, a two-bay hall to the east, and a two-bay service area to the west. The west cross-wing is a later addition, while the east cross-wing at the upper end is also from the 15th century.

On the garden front (south side), the two gabled cross-wings project slightly. The left cross-wing has a stone-coped verge and a blind window in the attic, with bands at the ground floor level. The right cross-wing features two bands, and the main range has one band at the ground floor. The building has a total of 1 + 7 + 1 windows: the cross-wings have 2-light casements, while the other windows are timber cross-windows. There is a further narrow window at each end of the main range, which is blocked. The ground floor is similar, except for the entrance, which replaces a window to the right of center, and French casements in the cross-wings.

The main entrance is located on the north front and features a 19th-century gabled porch. A lateral stack on the east cross-wing is made of brick and sits on a stone plinth, with two stumps of 6-point star-plan shafts. Inside, exposed framing can be seen in most rooms of the east cross-wing, which also contains an 18th-century staircase with turned balusters.
