Description
No. 19 Victoria Street is a house that later became a public house and shop, and is now used as offices. It dates back to 1300 but was mainly built in the early 17th century, with an extension added in the 18th century. The building was restored between 1979 and 1981. It features a timber frame on a brick base, with brick underbuilding at the front and a brick extension. The roof is tiled.
The structure has two storeys with an attic, and the gable faces the street, while a three-storey extension is on the left. The first floor displays close studding and jetties over the later underbuilding, supported by a post on the left that has an enriched cap. The extension has a roof that is hipped to the right, with segmental-headed windows on both the ground and first floors. The windows include 20th-century casements, with leaded glazing on the first floor and attic. There is a recessed entrance beneath the jetty.
The right side of the building, which faces St John's Street, has seven bays of square framing. It includes two windows on the ground floor and four windows on the first floor, one of which has four lights with diagonal timber mullions. There are three dormers with gabled roofs and an entrance with paired doors.
Inside, the building has timber-framed cross walls and stop-chamfered beams. The first floor was not inspected, but it is noted to have exposed roof trusses.
