Description
This is a pair of mid-19th century shops located on the south side of Queen Square. The two buildings are shown on Ordnance Survey maps as numbers 22 to 24, forming a continuous block. Constructed of buff brick with ashlar dressings, the buildings have a slate roof and a brick stack. They are four storeys high, with a four-window front. The shop fronts are 20th century replacements. The buildings feature sill bands on the second and third floors, and a top cornice with consoled end blocks, along with quoin strips. First-floor windows have architraves and consoled cornices, with four-pane sashes. Second-floor windows have eared architraves, enriched aprons, and four-pane sashes. Third-floor windows have architraves and nine-pane sashes. A cross-axial stack is present. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
