Description
Middle Lock, part of the Factory Locks on the Birmingham Canal, was built around 1829 and designed by engineer Thomas Telford. It is one of a flight of three locks. The structure is made of brick with sandstone kerbs in the lock chambers, although some of these have been replaced with concrete. At the upper side, there is cast iron sluice gear, and the lock features single gates. This flight of locks raises Telford's New Main Line on the Birmingham Level up to the 473 feet Wolverhampton Level.
