Description
Woodsetton War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled in 1922. It is made of granite and is located on Sedgely Road, near the junction with Parkes Hall Road.
The memorial features a wheel-headed cross on a collared shaft, which sits atop a square pedestal with chamfered corners. This pedestal is set on a three-stepped base, surrounded by a low wall that has finials at each corner.
On the north face of the memorial, there is an inscription that reads: "ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION IN MEMORY OF THOSE KILLED AND IN HONOUR OF THE MEN WHO WENT FROM WOODSETTON TO FIGHT IN THE GREAT EUROPEAN WAR 1914 – 1918." The east face lists the names of those from Swan Village who were "KILLED IN ACTION OR DIED OF WOUNDS," while the west face lists names from Woodsetton and Parkes Hall under the same heading.
