Description

The north portal of the Coseley Tunnel, part of the Birmingham Main Line, was built in 1837 as part of Thomas Telford's improvements to the Main Line. This tunnel portal features a brick arched structure that includes twin towpaths and brick non-slip horse treads. The brick arch ring is intersected by a retaining wall at the springing point, and there is a stone string course along the top. The brick retaining wall is capped with stone.
