Description

The south portal of the Coseley Tunnel, built in 1837, is part of Thomas Telford's improvements to the Birmingham Main Line. This tunnel portal features a brick arched structure with twin towpaths and brick horse treads that create a non-slip surface. The brick arch ring is intersected by a retaining wall at the springing point. Additionally, there is a stone string course and a stone-capped brick retaining wall.
