Description

The summerhouse on Plot 9 is a structure built around 1900, made of red brick with stone lintels and sills. It features a slate roof with gabled ends and eaves adorned with moulded terra cotta rosettes. This small, single-storey building has a symmetrical three-bay front with a central doorway that has a stone lintel and a six-panel door. On either side of the doorway are large windows, also with stone lintels and sills, and the windows include margin glazing bars. Inside, the plaster ceiling is missing, but there is a fireplace with a simple wooden chimneypiece and a cast-iron range. Stoney Road Gardens, also known as Park Gardens, were created for the owners of townhouses in Coventry without gardens, established shortly after 1853. By 1887, the northern half of the site had been developed into small gardens enclosed by hedges and divided by tracks and walks. Only eight of the original summerhouses remain.
