Description

Dating to around 1850, 283 and 285 Hamstead Road are a pair of semi-detached cottages designed as a single, picturesque, asymmetrical composition, facing the churchyard. They are built of red brick with decorative diapering of gault brick. The roofs are tiled, with chimney stacks featuring clustered brick shafts set diagonally. The cottages have half-hipped and shafted gables with decorative bargeboards. The upper floors have three-light wooden casements set in splayed reveals, with a drip string above. A recessed entrance bay between the gables contains an open-work porch with splat studs, and a hipped roof; a small dormer window is positioned above the porch.
