Description
No. 106 Moseley Road is a two-storey villa built around 1830-1840, featuring three bays and late Grecian architectural details. To the left, there is a slightly recessed two-storey gighouse extension. The ground floor has rusticated channelling, and the quoin pilasters are topped with a first-floor string course that extends over as capitals, adorned with three discs. The building has a plain parapet coping and a gable end slate roof, with flanking corniced stucco chimneys.
The ground floor windows rise from a brick plinth and are framed in plain stucco, with anthemion scroll heads flanked by fluted consoles that resemble beaks in the string course. The first-floor windows feature architrave surrounds with sills supported by consoles. A large square pier porch has pilasters on the walls, with capitals decorated with anthemia and acanthus. The deep frieze displays a be-ribboned wreath flanked by panels in line with the piers, and the moulded cornice breaks forward over them, culminating in a pedimented blocking course.
The doorcase is set within an arched recess, featuring reeded panel pilasters and a shallow entablature with a thin cornice. Above the door is a radial glazed fanlight, and the entrance itself consists of a six-panel door in a panelled reveal. On the coped gable end to the east, the quoin pilasters are returned, separating the service wing.
