Description
No 3 Carpenter Road is a small villa from around 1830, located in the early Calthorpe Estate in Edgbaston. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, with a stucco facade that was originally symmetrical. The ground floor features channeling that extends up to the first floor sill band. The gable end has a slate roof with overhanging eaves and flanking chimneys.
On the left side, there is a two-storey rectangular bay window that was added around 1900. The central sash window has three panes over four panes, while the right window has four panes over four panes, both set in plain reveals. The right-hand ground floor window is blind.
The central entrance features a doorcase with slender fluted Greek Doric columns, a deep entablature, and a blocking course. The door itself has four moulded and fielded panels within panelled reveals, topped by a rectangular fanlight with a geometric glazing pattern. To the left, there is a small annexe with similar channeling, and to the right, a screen wall with a garage. Despite the addition of the bay window, the villa retains many of its original features and is part of an important group of early villas.
