Description
The Church of St Francis of Assisi, completed in 1925 by W Alexander Harvey, is located on Linden Road in Bournville. This building is constructed of brick with minimal stone dressings and features a Roman tile roof with Lombardic eaves cornice. It is designed in a round-arched style and has a basilican plan with apses at the east and west ends, narrow lean-to aisles, and porches on the north and south sides. The granite arcade columns have capitals that are alternately carved and uncarved. The church consists of six bays, with aisle windows and a couplet in each bay. Inside, there is excellent woodwork in the stalls. A south chapel was added in 1966. The church is physically linked to the Parish Hall, forming a cohesive group.
