Description
21 and 21A Sycamore Road is an early 20th-century building located in Bournville. It is constructed of brick with a tiled roof and consists of two blocks designed to appear as a single symmetrical structure. The building has a basement and two storeys, with each block featuring six bays. The left block has its second bay advanced, while the right block has its fifth bay advanced and gabled.
On the ground floor, the entrance to No 17 is sheltered by a simple hood, with a central three-pane window and two two-pane windows in the advanced bay. There is also a tripartite window with a shallow relieving arch above. The entrances to Nos 17A and 19 are similarly styled, each with a simple hood and flanking side windows, followed by another tripartite window with a shallow relieving arch. The first floor mirrors this arrangement, but with shorter windows. Under the eaves, there is a tripartite window, two two-light windows, and another tripartite window.
Access to the ground floor from the pavement is provided by brick bridges with railings topped with urn finials, leading over wide and deep areas where the window patterns are similar to those above. There are also subsidiary doors accessed from the pavement down steps. All windows are rectangular wooden casements. Nos 19A, 21, and 21A form a similar block. The two blocks are connected by a wall with two arched openings that provide access to the rear, with a cobbled ramp leading down from the pavement to these openings.
