Description
No. 12 Clarendon Road is a symmetrical villa built around 1855, part of a group of three. This two-storey building features three bays and showcases Italianate architectural details. The tall proportions of the first floor conceal an attic storey at the sides and rear. It has a plinth, rusticated quoins, a cornice, and an applied entablature over the ground floor. The eaves are boxed and bracketted with a moulded bed to the mid-mullion. The slate roof includes modern dormers.
On the ground floor, there are large tripartite windows set within eared architraves. The first-floor windows are adorned with pierced work balustrades in an applied parapet, and their architrave surrounds rise into an archivolt over deeply modelled shell tympana. The entablature on the ground floor projects over an enclosed plastered porch, which also features a pierced work balustrade. The doorway is round-headed and framed by an architrave surround.
