Description

HARBORNE ROAD 1. 5104 (north side) Harborne B15 No 83 (Giles House) SP 0585 NW 39/5 II* GV 2. C1855. An Italianate house of unusual design and the birthplace of Sir Austin Chamberlain (1836-1937). Red brick with stucco quoins left and right; slate roof. Big moulded plinth. Ground floor windows round arched and with stucco capitals and gauged brick voussoirs within brick relieving arches with stuccoed keystones. First floor windows 4 centred with gauged brick voussoirs and sitting on moulded stucco sill band. Panelled eaves frieze with brackets. Entrance porch on right hand return has openwork iron arch and fanlight. Corrugated iron lean-to to passage 4 bays long and with similar openwork iron arches at side. The door in a single storeyed brick vestibule.
