Description
No. 81 Harborne Road is a building dating from around 1855. It is constructed of red brick with stucco dressings and has a slate roof. The building is two storeys high and features three bays. On the right side, there is an entrance porch that faces Highfield Road, supported by fluted Ionic columns and square piers, which hold up an entablature with a detailed iron balcony above. There is similar ironwork between stucco blocks that creates quasi balconies for both the ground and first-floor windows. The ground floor windows have moulded frames and cornices, while the first-floor windows feature shouldered frames, a bulgy frieze, and a cornice that is part of the eaves cornice. The roof has brick chimney stacks at the corners. The front facing Harborne Road is identical, except the central ground floor window is a shallow rectangular bay window that is tripartite and has arched glazing bars at the corners. All windows include glazing bars. Additionally, there is a two-storey service wing that projects towards Highfield Road, enclosing a forecourt.
