Description
Number 89, Harborne Road is a large house dated 1848, built in an Elizabethan style. It is constructed of red brick with stone dressings, and has a slate roof. The house is two storeys high with an attic, and originally comprised three bays, with the central bay projecting and featuring a shaped gable. This gable contains a projecting porch with a four-centred arch and mullioned fanlight, flanked by coupled Ionic columns. Above the porch is a canted oriel window with a sill zone featuring shields and open strapwork, topped with a parapet containing urns. An attic window sits within the gable. The ground floor windows on the left and right are rectangular bay windows with triangular centres and open strapwork parapets. Above these are three-light windows with transoms, and tripartite attic windows beneath smaller shaped gables. A low service wing extends to the left, with its own shaped gable and a link to a higher, shaped gabled coachhouse. To the right is a single and two-storey wing, dated to around 1910, built in an Arts and Crafts Elizabethan style.
