Description
St Chad's Hospital, located on Hagley Road in Edgbaston, dates back to around 1800 and has been altered over time. The building is constructed of red brick and features a slate roof with a modillion cornice and a blocking course. It stands three storeys tall, plus an attic, and has five bays, with the central three bays being advanced and topped with a pediment. The ground floor is largely obscured by a later added porte cochere. All the windows are sashes with glazing bars, arranged in pairs with five pairs on the ground floor, four pairs on the first floor, and three pairs on the second floor. The windows in the central projection have been altered in the 19th century and feature cornices on brackets within the original window openings. An oval window is set in the pediment. The building has remodelled wings and extensive additions made in the 1930s, which are not included in this description.
