Description

24 and 24A Avenue Road is a villa, now divided into flats, built between 1848 and 1856 with later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of pinkish-yellow brick and features a scored and painted stucco front facade, a Welsh slate roof, and a cast-iron verandah. It has a central hallway plan and stands two storeys tall with three first-floor windows.

The villa has a plinth and alternately vermiculated quoins. There are two roll-edged steps leading to the central entrance, which consists of a part-glazed, part-panelled door with a cambered overlight set in plain reveals, surrounded by an alternately vermiculated Gibbs surround. The windows are 1/1 sashes with margin-lights in plain reveals and tooled surrounds, with the ground floor windows being larger. A continuous sill band projects below the first-floor windows, which are fitted with Venetian blinds and blind boxes. The ground floor features a continuous verandah adorned with a double-scroll motif on the uprights. The building has wide eaves, a hipped roof, and end stacks.

The interior was not inspected. This villa is part of an architectural group that includes Nos 12-22 (even) and 26 Avenue Road.
