Description
This villa, now converted into flats, was built around 1838 to 1850, with later alterations. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco facade, stucco stacks, and a Welsh slate roof. The property features a cast-iron verandah.
The villa is two storeys high, with three windows on the first floor. It has alternately rusticated quoins and a plinth. The first floor has a moulded band and 1/1 sash windows with margin lights in plain reveals, with sills. The ground floor features three roll-edged steps leading to a central entrance, where there is a four-panel door with a glazed upper section. This entrance is set within a hollow-chamfered surround with a moulded architrave. Flanking the entrance are tripartite windows, featuring a 1/1 sash window between two narrower 1/1 sash windows with upper and lower lights, all within a double-chamfered, cambered-arched surround, and a tooled architrave. A modillion cornice runs along the top. The roof is hipped, with tall end and roof stacks topped with modillion cornices. A continuous verandah runs along the ground floor, with a scroll motif on the upright supports.
The interior has not been inspected. Kenilworth Road was laid out between 1834 and 1838, and numbers 20, 22, 26, 28, 30, 36, 38, and 46 form a group of villas with similar architectural characteristics.
