Description

This villa, now converted into flats, was likely built between 1836 and 1850, with subsequent additions and alterations. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco facade, a Welsh slate roof, and a cast-iron verandah. The building is two storeys high, with three windows on the first floor. Alternately rusticated quoins are present. It has a plinth and full-height canted bays featuring 1/1 sash windows with margin lights set in plain reveals, with a moulded sill band. The first-floor central window also has a 1/1 sash with margin lights in plain reveals and a tooled architrave. The ground floor features three steps leading to a central entrance with a four-panel, part-glazed door and basket-arched overlight, all set in plain reveals and a cavetto-moulded surround with tooled architrave. A hipped roof and end stacks are present. A continuous verandah runs along the ground floor, characterised by barley-twist uprights and a cogged frieze. The interior has not been inspected. Kenilworth Road was laid out between 1834 and 1838, and this villa forms an architectural group with numbers 20, 22, 26, 28, 36, 38, and 46.
