Description

Cranbourne (Number 26) and Adelaide Cottage (Number 26A) are two dwellings that were originally built as a villa around 1848 to 1856, with later additions and alterations. The buildings are constructed of pinkish-yellow brick with a painted stucco front facade, topped with a Welsh slate roof and featuring a cast-iron verandah. The layout includes a central hallway plan.

The villa stands two storeys high and has three first-floor windows. It features a plinth and alternately vermiculated quoins. Access is via two steps leading to a central entrance, which consists of a part-glazed, part-panelled door with a cambered overlight set in plain reveals, surrounded by an alternately vermiculated Gibbs surround. The windows are 2/2 sashes set in plain reveals with tooled surrounds; the ground floor windows are larger, while the first-floor windows are fitted with Venetian blinds and blind boxes. A projecting sill band runs below the first-floor windows. The wide eaves and hipped roof are complemented by end and rear stacks. The ground floor includes a continuous verandah supported by uprights featuring a double-scroll motif.

The interior has not been inspected. This building forms an architectural group with Nos 12-24 (even) Avenue Road.
