Description
Nos 27 and 29 on Smith Street are a building dating from around 1750. This two-storey structure, with an attic, features a three-window brick facade adorned with painted stone dressings. On the first floor, the central sash window is framed by a moulded stone architrave with a plain keyblock and a bracketed sill. Flanking this window are two identical small Venetian windows, each with stone pilasters and an entablature, although the one on the right lacks glazing bars.
In the center, there are two entrances with six-fielded-panelled doors, oblong fanlights, and rusticated surrounds with keyblocks. No 27, on the left, has a fixed plate glass light in its original opening. The shopfront of No 29, on the right, features vertical glazing bars and likely dates from the early 19th century. The building also has three gabled dormers, old tiles, chamfered quoins, and slim pilasters, frieze, and cornice on the shopfront. Nos 23 to 29 form a cohesive group.
