Description

This is a terrace of five houses located at 6-14 Russell Terrace, Royal Leamington Spa. The terrace dates to the early 19th century, with later alterations including a mid-20th century attic added to number 12. The construction is primarily pinkish-brown brick with painted stucco front facades and a left-hand return, topped with Welsh slate roofs, except for number 10, which has a cement-tile roof.

The terrace is arranged over two storeys, with number 14 being three storeys high, and has eight first-floor windows arranged in a pattern of 2:1:blind:1:1:blind:1. Numbers 6 and 8, and numbers 10 and 12, are paired houses, each featuring a blind window at the centre. Tall Tuscan pilasters are present at the ends of the terrace and between numbers 8 and 10, and 10 and 14, along with a continuous frieze and cornice. The first-floor windows are 6/6 sash windows set in plain reveals with sills, and there's a blocking course at this level.

The ground floor features steps leading to the entrance on the left, with paired central entrances to the other houses. These entrances consist of three-panel doors, some of which are part-glazed, with overlights incorporating glazing bars. Each house has a paired entrance, topped by a wide pediment and flanked by Tuscan pilasters. Every house also features a canted bay window on the ground floor with 6/6 sash windows above 2/2 sashes. The third floor of number 14 has two 3/6 sash windows set in plain reveals, topped by a cornice and a blocking course. The roofline is punctuated by tall ridge and end stacks.

The left-hand return presents first-floor windows of 6/6 and 6/9 sash type; the second-floor features two 3/6 sashes; and the ground floor has two 6/6 sashes, all set within plain reveals and with sills.

The interior of number 12 includes a dogleg staircase with stick balusters; the interiors of the other houses were not inspected.
