Description
Lock Cottage is a lock keeper's cottage built around 1816 for the Stratford-on-Avon Canal. It is located approximately 5 meters northeast of Lowsonford Bridge. The building is constructed of painted brick and features an asphalt-covered brick barrel-vault roof with segmental parapeted gable ends and a brick ridge stack positioned to the left of center.
The cottage is a single-storey structure with a three-window range. On the left, there is a three-light casement window, while the center has a three-light wood mullion and transom window, and the right side features a two-light casement window. The left return of the cottage includes a plank door to the right and a 19th-century metal casement window in the center, which has two rows of five lights.
At the rear, there is a single-storey outbuilding extension that has a tiled gable-ended roof. This cottage is one of six lock-keeper's cottages along the Stratford-on-Avon Canal, which began construction in 1793 and was completed in 1816. The roof of the cottage was built using form-work similar to that used for canal bridges.
