Description

This is a mid-19th century terrace of three houses, located at Milverton Terrace in Royal Leamington Spa. The houses have been altered and extended, including a later addition to the left. They are constructed of brick with painted stucco facades, Welsh slate roofs, and concealed rooflines. Cast-iron railings are attached to the front.

The terrace is three storeys high, with attics and basements, featuring six first-floor windows per house, and a two-storey, single first-floor window range on the left, along with extensions to the rear. The stucco facade incorporates rustication to the ground floor and a first-floor band topped by giant Tuscan pilasters that extend through the first and second floors. The first-floor windows are 8-pane French windows with divided overlights and margin lights set in plain reveals with sills and tooled architraves. The ground floor entrances consist of four roll-edged steps leading to two-fielded-panel doors with fanlights containing glazing bars, set within double-chamfered reveals. Otherwise, the ground floor has tripartite windows; the window to the left is a 1/1 sash between 1/1 sashes, and the others are 6/6 sashes between 2/2 sashes, all in plain reveals within wider, elliptically-arched recesses. The basement windows are a combination of casement windows and a 5/10 sash. Throughout, the facade is finished with a frieze, cornice and blocking course. Tall end and ridge stacks are topped with cornices.

The left-hand range has a ground-floor canted bay with 1/1 sashes and a 2/2 sash in a tooled architrave with sill on the first floor, also including a frieze, cornice and blocking course. First-floor windows in the main range feature individual balconies with distinctive cast-iron motifs: double-heart-and-anthemion motifs on numbers 10 and 12, and a rod-and-circle motif on number 14. Boot scrapers are located on the top steps of numbers 12 and 14.

The interior has not been inspected. The attached area railings feature a semi-circular design with scrolling, upturned heart finials.
