Description
No. 2 Church Hill is a house that has been converted into flats, built around 1832 with later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of brick with a scored and painted stucco front facade, while the right return is finished in unpainted stucco. It features a concealed roof and a cast-iron verandah and porch.
The house stands three storeys tall with a double basement and has four first-floor windows. To the right, there is a wide, half-canted bay that extends to full height. The first floor includes two 1/1 sash windows in round-arched surrounds, an 8-pane French window with margin-lights, and another 1/1 sash window. The second floor has a band of windows consisting of two 2/2 sashes, one 1/1 sash, two 2/2 sashes, and one 1/1 sash, all set in splayed, plain reveals.
On the ground floor, the entrance is located to the left, accessed by a flight of eight steps leading to a six-panel door with an overlight. There are also tall 1/1 sash windows and 2/2 sash windows, all in plain reveals with a continuous sill band. The basement features a 2/2 sash and a 1/1 sash window, along with a part-glazed door and another 2/2 sash window.
The first floor is adorned with a cast-iron verandah that has a Greek key motif on the uprights and a scroll balustrade. There are remains of a porch that features a lozenge motif.
The historical context notes that Church Hill was laid out in 1832.
