Description

The Saxon Mill Restaurant is a building dating from the early 18th century, originally serving as a miller's house, with a warehouse of late 17th century origin located at the rear. The house is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with roughcast rendering on the south and east elevations. It features a moulded stone eaves cornice and a steeply pitched plain tile roof that is hipped but has a gable at the east end.

The west elevation, facing the road, has two ground floor sash windows with glazing bars, and on the first floor, there are two two-light casements with glazing bars, all set within moulded architraves. The south elevation includes three modern three-light casements with leaded panes on both the ground and first floors, along with two six-panel doors topped with pedimented hoods. There are three gabled dormers, each with two-light casements.

The warehouse, which was refaced in the early 18th century, is also made of sandstone ashlar. It features exposed timber framing with red brick infill panels on the east gable and has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with gabled ends. The warehouse stands two storeys tall, plus three storeys of attics, and is supported by two large buttresses on the west gable. A modern arcaded lean-to porch spans the west elevation, and there is a balcony at the second floor, along with modern two-light casements featuring leaded panes.
