Description
95, 97, and 99 Regent Street are houses that have been converted into shops with storage above. They were built around 1810 to 1820 and have undergone later additions and alterations, including early- and mid-20th century shop fronts on the ground floor. The buildings are constructed of reddish-brown brick, with a painted facade on the left and a painted stucco facade on the right. The right side features a Welsh slate roof, while the left side has a concealed roof. There are cast-iron balconies present.
The buildings rise three storeys and have four first-floor windows. On the first floor, there are 6/6 sash windows in plain reveals with sills, and the two windows on the left have cambered arches. The second floor features 3/3 sash windows throughout, also with sills and in plain reveals, with two on the left having cambered arches. The ground floor includes, from the left, a part-glazed door within a glazed shop front, followed by two part-glazed, panelled doors with overlights. To the right, there are two canted shop fronts with slender columns between them. The left side has modillion eaves, and the roof is hipped on the right. A tall stack with a cornice is located between the first and second windows, and individual balconies feature stick balusters.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Regent Street was originally known as Cross Street and was laid out between 1808 and 1814.
