Description

72 and 74 Regent Street are two houses that have been converted into shops. They were built around 1820 and have undergone later additions and alterations, including an early 20th-century shop front on the left and a mid to late 20th-century shop front on the right. The left side features pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond, while the right side has a painted stucco facade. The left side has a Welsh slate roof, which is concealed on the right.

The buildings are three storeys high and have four first-floor windows, with the dwelling on the right being taller. On the first floor, there are two 6/6 sash windows with plain reveals and sills, featuring flat channelled arches with raised keystones, alongside two 6/9 sash windows in plain reveals. The second floor has two 3/3 sash windows in plain reveals. The ground floor has a central part-glazed door set in a canted shop front with pilaster strips and an overlight. To the right, there is a glazed door within a glazed shop front. The buildings have an eaves cornice and copings on the right, along with two tall central stacks, one of which has been partly rebuilt on the left.

The interior has not been inspected. Historically, Regent Street was originally known as Cross Street and was laid out between 1808 and 1814.
