Description
This is a shop with a flat, dating to approximately 1820, in Royal Leamington Spa, with later additions and alterations including a 19th-century shop front. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick with a painted stucco facade, topped with a Welsh slate roof and features a cast-iron balcony.
The building is three storeys high, with two windows on the first floor. The first floor has tall 6/9 sash windows, while the second floor features 3/3 sash windows; all have plain reveals and flat rusticated arches. A part-glazed, four-panel door with Gothic tracery and decorative glazing bars in the overlight is set within panelled reveals at a side entrance. The shop entrance has a part-glazed door with a lower panel and cambered glass above, accompanied by basket-arched shop windows. These windows have a narrow, long-panel apron and fluted quarter columns, with a leaf motif in the spandrels and a frieze with a blind box. A first-floor balcony is present, decorated with a diamond and scroll motif.
The interior of the building was not inspected during the listing process. The premises have been occupied by a chemist since their construction. Regent Street, originally known as Cross Street, was laid out between 1808 and 1814, with the first houses in a terrace built in 1814. The building forms a group with numbers 71 and 73 Parade and numbers 87-93 Regent Street.
