Description
92 and 92A Parade are houses that have been converted into a shop with flats and storage above. They were built around 1810 to 1818, with later additions and alterations, including likely stucco work done between 1835 and 1860, and a mid-20th century ground floor with a shop front and attic dormers.
The exterior features three storeys with an attic and three first-floor windows. The ground floor shows remnants of horizontal rustication at the ends, topped by a cornice and giant Egypto-Corinthian pilasters extending through the first and second floors. There is a double frieze, cornice, blocking course, and copings. The first floor has 6/1 sash windows with moulded surrounds and cornices, while the second floor has 3/3 sash windows with eared and moulded surrounds and sills with feet. All windows are set in plain reveals, and there is an end stack. The left return has a similar facade with two first-floor windows and tall pilasters at the ends, along with a pair between the windows.
Inside, there are remains of an egg-and-dart cornice on the first floor, although the interior walls have been removed.
Historically, the Parade was named in 1860, having originally been called Lillington Lane before being renamed Union Row around 1809. The lower section was laid out between 1810 and 1814, and the original buildings were brick fronted. Initially built as houses, hotels, and lodging houses, many had become shops by 1850. This building forms part of an architectural group with Nos. 63-79 (odd) Regent Street. No. 92A was listed on March 25, 1970.
