Description
No. 65 Parade is a house that has been converted into a shop and offices. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone later additions and alterations, including a ground floor and shop front from the mid to late 20th century. The building features a dark grey brick stack, a painted stucco facade, and a Welsh slate roof.
It stands three storeys high and has two first-floor windows. The first floor is adorned with tall 6/6 sash windows that have moulded architraves and a cornice supported by corbels. The second floor contains 3/3 sash windows with moulded surrounds and sills. A replacement modillion cornice is present. The ground floor showcases horizontal rustication at the ends and door post, with a glazed entrance and shop front. There is a right end stack and a continuous first-floor balcony with an ornate balustrade.
The interior has not been inspected. Historically, the Parade was named in 1860. It was originally called Lillington Lane, renamed Union Row around 1809, and then Union Parade by 1814. The lower section of the road was developed and built between 1810 and 1818, while the upper section on the east side was constructed between 1824 and 1840.
