Description
Bretby is a house that was formerly two cottages, built in the 18th century. It is constructed of squared, coursed ironstone with quoins on the right side and features a thatched roof with a brick stack at one end. The building has two storeys and a two-window range, originally designed with a two-unit plan.
At the center, there is a 19th-century plank door set beneath a thatched hood. To the left, extending forward, is a recessed glazed door with a wooden lintel. To the left of the central door, there is a two-light leaded casement window with a lintel and keyblock. To the right, a 24-pane window includes a central four-pane casement, also with a lintel and keyblock. On the first floor, to the left, there is a two-light casement window, and to the left of that, a three-light leaded casement window.
Inside, the house features a large inglenook fireplace with an ogee stopped bressumer and a blocked bread oven. The ceilings are adorned with chamfered beams that have run-out stops.
