Description

This is a terrace of four houses at 2-5 New Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, built between 1837 and 1840. Number 5 was built by Joseph Holtom. The houses are constructed of brick with buff brick headers and stucco dressings, and have a slate roof with brick end stacks and a cross-axial stack. They are in a Georgian style, with two storeys and a four-window front. The eaves are plain. The entrances are to the right of the windows and feature moulded doorcases with paterae and cornices. The doors are six-panel, except for that of Number 3, which has flush panels, and Number 5, which has fielded panels. Each entrance has an overlight with margin lights. The windows have sills and rusticated wedge lintels, with 16-pane horned sashes to Number 4, 4-pane horned sashes to Number 2, and casement windows to Numbers 3 and 5. The terrace is part of the early 19th-century development of the south side of Stratford.
