Description

Gables Farmhouse is a mid-17th century farmhouse constructed of limestone ashlar with quoins, and features a coped gable to the right. It has a slate roof and a brick end stack on a stone base. The house is two storeys high with an attic, and has a two-window front range, arranged in an L-shape. A 20th-century door sits within a semi-circular stone arch, sheltered by a 20th-century wood gabled porch. To the left of the door is a six-light mullioned window with ovolo moulding. The full gabled dormers to the left and right each contain a three-light, ovolo-moulded mullioned window. All the mullioned windows have hood moulds with label stops. A blocked doorway and a single chamfered light are visible at the rear left. A gable end extending to the rear includes a single chamfered light, and a 17th-century two-light wooden mullioned window with a wooden lintel. On the ground floor is an 18th-century three-light mullioned window, also with ovolo moulding, leaded lights, and original glass. Two early 19th century stone ranges project from the rear of the building, alongside a two-storey brick range dated 1897. The interior, which has not been inspected, is said to contain spine beams with run-out stops and an open fireplace.
