Description

Moreton Cottage and The Old Post Office are a pair of cottages with a former post office, dating from the mid-18th century, with the post office section likely built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of coursed squared ironstone with diagonally-set cement slate roofs. The Old Post Office section has coped gable parapets to its right-hand end, featuring moulded kneelers; it also has a stone ridge and brick end stacks.

The cottages are each of 2-unit plan, and arranged over two storeys with a two-window range to Moreton Cottage. Moreton Cottage’s left-hand side features a partly-glazed 6-panelled door, and a three-light casement with glazing bars. A 20th-century three-light casement is on the right, and a window with glazing bars is in the corner. The first floor has two-light casements with cross-glazing. The Old Post Office has a 6-panelled door and three-light casements containing glazing bars, with a two-light casement on the first floor to the right. The former post office is a single-window range, and features a wide 8-light casement, a 6-panelled door, and a three-light casement with glazing bars above, all set under a single lintel. The interior was not inspected.
