Description
The Orchard is a house dating from the 17th and early/mid 18th centuries, with a small mid-19th century addition to the right. It is built of regular coursed ironstone with a moulded string course. The straw thatched roof has coped gable parapets with moulded kneelers; the stone ridge stacks are prominent. The later addition has a slate roof. The house is arranged in a T-plan, with a wing extending to the rear. It has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window front. A moulded two-panelled door sits between the second and third bays, sheltered by a rustic porch with a shingle roof. The ground floor windows are three-light casements with glazing bars and stone flat arches; the first floor windows are three-light casements with horizontal glazing bars only. A 20th-century three-light window is visible in the later addition. Small, swept-roof dormers light the attic. On the left return side are a two-light and a one-light attic window. The wing to the rear has three-light, painted, chamfered mullioned windows; the mullions have been removed from the ground floor windows and replaced with 19th-century casements. The interior has not been inspected.
