Description

St Leonard’s Cottage is a cottage dating from the mid to late 18th century, with an addition constructed in the mid to late 19th century and a late 20th-century restoration. The cottage is built of squared coursed ironstone, with the addition featuring rendered brick and mock timber framing on the first floor. It has thatched roofing, tile roofing to the addition, and brick end and ridge stacks. Originally a two-unit cottage, it was extended to a three-unit plan. The cottage has one storey and an attic, while the addition has two storeys and a three-window front. The left-hand range features a large, mid-20th century thatched porch with a casement window to the front and a glazed door on the right return. A mid to late 20th-century glazed door is located inside the porch. The windows are 2- and 3-light casements with horizontal glazing bars and painted wooden lintels. The addition has 2-light casements, with a smaller window on the left side of the first floor. All windows have horizontal glazing bars and painted wooden lintels. The rear elevation is irregular, with leaded casements. A double swept dormer has two 2-light casements. The first floor of the addition is whitewashed. The interior was not inspected. The cottage is included on the list for its group value.
