Description

The Holly Bush Inn is an inn dating from the late 17th and 18th centuries, with a 19th-century addition and 19th and 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of regular coursed ironstone, with concrete tile roofs and a large stone and brick ridge stack. The building originally comprised three units, extended to a T-plan with an older range forming the cross-wing on the left. It has two storeys and an attic, with a one-storey-and-attic wing. The front facade has a two-window range. The original range has a central old plank door, with two tie rod plates above. There are 2-light casements; those on the left are 19th-century with horizontal glazing bars, and those on the right are 20th-century with glazing bars and a concrete lintel. A first-floor window has 19th-century cross-glazing and a painted wood lintel, and there is a leaded attic casement. The windows have stone lintels with keystones. The left return side is an irregular four-window range, featuring a buttress between the first and second bays. There are 19th and 20th-century casements, and wood mullioned windows with painted wood lintels. The right return side has a 20th-century 2-light window on the ground floor, and an old 2-light first-floor window with numerous glazing bars. A 19th-century range extends at right angles, with a mid-to-late 20th-century lean-to in the angle. This lean-to has double doors in the return side and two mid-20th-century 2-light casements with glazing bars. There are 20th-century stone lintels with keystones. A roof dormer in the corner has a 2-light casement with a horizontal glazing bar. The interior features an open fireplace with stop-chamfered bressumer and stop-chamfered ceiling beams.
