Description

This is a house, likely dating to the late 16th or early 17th century, with a smaller, late 18th century wing added to the rear. It is built of regular coursed limestone with contrasting limestone dressings and alternating quoins. The roof features a mid-19th century decoratively-laid slate covering, retaining original stone coped gable parapets with moulded kneelers, a stone ridge, and end stacks with brick shafts. The building has a four-unit plan and two storeys with an attic, presenting a four-window front. The main entrance has a 19th-century fielded four-panelled door within a moulded basket arched surround with moulded spandrels, and a hood mould with lozenge stops. The windows are 3-light, recessed-chamfered stone mullioned windows with hood moulds. Stacks feature quoins and brick dog-tooth cornices, paired diagonally set square shafts and cornices, although some rebuilding is evident. The rear of the house is irregular, with a six-panelled door matching the front entrance, a part-glazed plank door in the lower right corner, 18th-century leaded 2-light casement windows, and a French window. The rear wing has a brick external stack on its rear face, and later 20th-century roof dormers have been added. Inside, the house retains fine ogee stop-chamfered ceiling beams. A room to the left has a moulded four-centred fireplace, while another room contains an early 18th century moulded arched fireplace, flanked by cupboards with 18th and 19th century panelled doors. A 19th-century straight flight staircase is also present.
