Description
Numbers 1-4 and attached railings form a terrace of four houses built in 1859-60 by William Holtom. They are constructed of painted brick with stucco dressings, topped by a slate roof with brick end stacks featuring stop-chamfered details and a central stack. The buildings are in a Georgian style, arranged symmetrically across an 8-window frontage. The top of the building has a timber entablature. The two pairs of entrances are distinguished by doorcases with friezes and consoled cornices, sheltering 4-panel doors with plain overlights. Ground floor canted bay windows have consoled cornices and 4:16-pane sashes. Windows above the entrances have sills and 12-pane sashes. Some original railings survive along the right-hand side of the front area. The rear of the terrace features two wings. The terrace is a well-preserved example of mid-19th century housing and is part of the early 19th century development on the south side of Stratford.
