Description
The Owl Pen is a house located in Welford-on-Avon, dating from the 17th century with later alterations. It features a timber-frame construction with painted plaster infill set on a rubble plinth, topped by a hipped thatched roof. There is a brick stack at the rear of the ridge and a cross-axial stack. The building has a three-unit plan and is single-storey plus attic with a two-window range.
On the exterior, the entrance is positioned to the left of center and consists of a battened door within a moulded wood frame. To the right of the entrance, there is a two-light casement window, while the windows on either side feature three-light casements, with a small light in a narrow extension at the left end. The first floor includes two raking dormers, each with four-light casements, all of which have leaded glazing. To the right of center, there is a rounded plastered projection that houses a bread oven.
Additionally, there is a timber-framed single-storey extension on the right, which has a hipped tile roof and a two-light casement window with crown glass and lead cames. The attic floor displays bracing. The interior has not been inspected.
