Description
The Old Rectory is a house, dating from about 1800, and possibly incorporating an earlier structure. It was originally a rectory, and has been altered later. The exterior is roughcast with stucco detailing, topped by a steeply pitched roof covered in machine tiles. Brick end stacks are also roughcast. The house follows a double-depth, central staircase plan.
The building is symmetrical and comprises five windows across the front. Pilaster strips run along the ends and a cornice runs along the top. The front door is within a round-headed doorcase featuring Tuscan columns with fluted capitals. Above the door is an entablature with triglyphs on each face and an open pediment decorated with rosettes. A fanlight with decorative glazing bars sits above a six-panel door, with reeded beading. The windows have sills and two-over-two sashes. The ground floor window on the right has been replaced with a 20th-century horned sash, originally a 12-pane sash. Three gabled dormers have two-light casements.
The rear of the property features three gabled wings, a 20th-century conservatory, and a single-storey wing. First floor windows have 12-pane sashes (with eight-pane sashes flanking the central one) and six-pane sashes on the second floor. A stack is located within a valley on the rear elevation. The interior was not inspected during the listing process.
