Description
Cleavers is a house dating from around 1740. It is constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with ashlar stone dressings, and has a renewed tile roof with coped gables and brick end stacks. The design is in the Georgian style, arranged around a central staircase.
The exterior presents a symmetrical facade with five windows on each floor, plus an attic. Architectural details include an ashlar plinth, a plat band above the ground floor, a top cornice, and quoins. The elliptical-headed entrance has a porch with Doric columns, return entablatures, and an enriched swan-neck pediment. Above the door is a fanlight with thick glazing bars and a small-paned half-glazed door. The windows have moulded sills and rubbed brick flat arches with fluted ashlar key blocks over 6/6 sash windows. The attic has three gabled dormers with weatherboarding over 3/3 sash windows. The roof is gabled, and the stacks have ashlar cornices. A gabled wing to the rear features a modillioned brick cornice and a stair window; a smaller 20th-century wing is attached to the left. The left return is attached to Pear Tree Cottage, which is not included in the listing.
The interior has not been inspected.
