Description

The hearse house, located approximately 23 metres south of the Church of Holy Trinity in Stratford-upon-Avon, dates from the mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a parapeted roof with a rear lateral stack, designed in the Gothic style. The building is single storey and has a three-window range. It includes a plinth, three offset buttresses, and a top cornice adorned with two gargoyles and a coped parapet.

To the left of the centre, there is a four-centred entrance with paired plank doors that have strap hinges. The windows are double-chamfered-mullioned with four-centred heads; the two-light window at the left end is blocked, while the three-light windows to the right have leaded glazing. The structure also features two crenellated rainwater heads and downspouts. The left return has two doors in single-chamfered openings, and the right return has a large entrance with paired doors. The rear of the building is integrated into the churchyard wall. This hearse house is included for its group value.
