Description

There are six chest tombs located approximately 3 meters south of the south aisle of the Church of St Michael and All Angels. These tombs date from the 17th century, 18th century, and early 19th century, and are made of sandstone ashlar.

Chest A measures approximately 1.25 meters long, 0.75 meters wide, and 0.5 meters high, featuring plain sides and a chamfered surmounting slab. Chest B is about 1.25 meters long, 1 meter high, and 0.5 meters wide, with a chamfered plinth, eroded inscription panels on the sides, and a hipped slab on top. Chest C is approximately 2 meters long, 0.5 meters high, and 1 meter wide, designed as a low rectangular chest with a chamfered slab on top. Chest D also measures 2 meters long, 0.5 meters high, and 1 meter wide, featuring a low rectangular design with a slab that has an incised border and eroded inscription.

Chest E is situated on a plinth dedicated to Elizabeth Wilcox, who died in 1809, along with her husband Matthew and daughter Christian, who died in 1837. The plinth is approximately 3 meters square and supports a chest that is about 1.5 meters high, 2 meters long, and 1 meter wide, with two fielded inscription panels on each side and bulbous balusters recessed at the corners, topped with a double-chamfered slab. Chest F measures approximately 2 meters long, 0.5 meters high, and 1 meter wide, featuring a chamfered plinth and a rectangular chest topped with an eroded chamfered slab that has an incised border.

All of these tombs are part of a group with the Church of St Michael and All Angels.
