Description
The Manor is a manor house, now a house, likely dating from the late 16th and early 17th centuries, with later additions. It is constructed of ashlar limestone and coursed squared limestone rubble, with a steeply pitched slate roof laid to diminishing courses. Stone ridge and brick end stacks are present, along with a stone coped gable to the left. The building has a complex plan, including a main two-storey early part, a lower single-storey-plus-attic range to the right, and a brick range on stone footings at the rear.
The main part of the house has a three-window front. The right-hand entrance features a panelled door with a moulded wood door frame and overlight. A four-light stone mullioned and transomed window is on the left. The first floor has two two-light and one four-light stone mullioned and transomed windows. A moulded band runs above the ground floor and first-floor windows. The building has a stone plinth and lighter stone quoins. The two-window single-storey-plus-attic stone range to the right has a more modest appearance.
Inside, features include chamfered beams, four-centred stone fireplaces on both floors, a dog-leg staircase, a stud partition in a first-floor room, stone flag floors, and a plank door with a four-centred arched wood doorway. Historical records indicate that William Sheldon used the property in the 16th century to manufacture the famous Sheldon Tapestries.
