Description
Nos. 8 and 9 Sheep Street is a town house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from around 1800 or possibly earlier and features painted brickwork and a slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and is designed in the Georgian style, standing two storeys tall with an attic and a three-window range.
There is a platt band above the ground floor and a top cornice with modillions, which includes a central pedimental gable, a characteristic feature found in several buildings throughout the town. The entrance, located at the left end, has a segmental arch and features a four-flush-panel door set in a heavy pegged frame. To the right, there is a 20th-century shop front.
On the first floor, the windows are segmental-headed with keys above 12-pane sash windows set in wide frames. The gable features a lunette window with a key above three-light leaded glazing.
