Description
No. 3 Sheep Street is a town house that has been converted into a shop and dwelling. It dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with a refronting that occurred around 1800. The front is made of colourwashed brick, concealing an internal timber frame, and it features a slate roof with a brick lateral stack at the rear. The building is two storeys high and has a two-window range, topped with a cornice.
The entrance includes a half-glazed panelled door, while the entry to the right has a plank door with a grille above it. There are two canted bay windows with plate glass flanking the entrance, all covered by a corniced roof supported by a bracketed horizontal iron bar. On the first floor, the windows have sills and 16-pane sash frames. Notably, there is an attractive early 20th-century sign and a wrought-iron bracket featuring a shepherd and sheep.
Inside, the building retains exposed beams and close-studded walls. There is a corner cupboard adorned with reeded pilasters, a frieze and cornice, and a fielded-panel door.
